Hello, my name is Luis Efren Aguilar and I am happy to join the dynamic and integrative health care team at Appletree Psychological Services. I have a passion for working with underprivileged and underrepresented groups, and throughout my graduate training, I have developed an interest in the field of neuropsychology and gerontology.
I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a double emphasis in Psychobiology and Gerontology. I received my Masters in Arts in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. Currently, I am a graduate student at Alliant Internation University, San Francisco, where I will be receiving my Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.).
My previous practicum experience has allowed me to develop a breadth of competence in multidisciplinary diagnosis and group therapy treatments among a diverse age and ethnic population. I have additional assessment training where I have conducted thorough neuropsychological assessment batteries with children, adolescents, and adults who may have neurocognitive disorders.
My theoretical orientation is primarily integrative. When conceptualizing and providing psychotherapy, I pull from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and also examine biological and societal factors. I also favor a systems approach when conceptualizing my clients. I think that in order for true change to occur, the system in which the client lives must be considered. I strongly perceive the therapy space as a collaborative process in which we are working together to create greater awareness, self-compassion, and insight in order to promote positive change and growth.
I am a native Spanish speaker and would love to work with monolingual Spanish speaking clients.
